Employment is an intricate part of the recovery process and a primary tool for empowering consumers. Providers are employing consumers in greater numbers as a way to improve clinical and business outcomes. To effectively hire and retain consumer employees there are many questions about how to recruit, manage and integrate this staff into your agency.
To address these questions, “Consumers in the Mental Health Workforce: A Handbook for Providers” offers sample job descriptions, evaluations and policies from providers that have successfully hired consumers. This publication also provides tips for how to conduct an interview and guidance for supervising a consumer employee. This valuable resource will help you, in partnership with the consumer employee, provide a unique perspective on how to deliver service, reduce stigma and increase the credibility of your agency.
