From the Street to Stability describes the Relational Outreach and Engagement Model (ROEM) which informs the Mental Health Chaplaincy’s work with isolated, difficult to reach homeless, mentally ill individuals. Key issues faced by the person who is homeless and the outreach worker, and the core assumptions of a relational outreach and engagement framework are discussed. The movement from the street to stability is presented in terms of four phases: approach, companionship, partnerships and mutuality. The basic practices of care in each phase are presented with brief case illustrations and comment. (author)
