This is an Excel spreadsheet that provides a side-by-side comparison of the 2004 and 2010 Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Data Standards.
Worksheet 1: Universal Data Elements: This worksheet lists all Universal Data Elements (required of all programs), as well as their response categories (from the 2004 HUD HMIS Data and Technical Standards).  Additionally, this worksheet describes how each data element and response category has changed, if it all, in the new 2010 HUD HMIS Data and Technical Standards (DTS).  Included in the changes are new questions that may have been added to the data element (ex: Date of Birth now asks also for Date of Birth Type).  Brand new Data Elements are listed and described in Worksheet 3: NEW Data Elements.

Worksheet 2: Program Specific Data Elements: This worksheet lists all Program Specific Data Elements (required only for certain programs), as well as their response categories (from the 2004 HUD HMIS Data and Technical Standards).  Additionally, this worksheet describes how each data element and response category has changed, if it all, in the new 2010 HUD HMIS Data and Technical Standards (DTS). Included in the changes are new questions that may have been added to the data element (ex: Date of Birth now asks also for Date of Birth Type).  Brand new Data Elements are listed and described in
Worksheet 3: NEW Data Elements.

Worksheet 3: NEW Data Elements: This worksheet lists all of the new universal and program specific data elements, as well as their response categories.

Worksheet 4: NEW Program Descriptor Data Elements: This worksheet lists the new Program Descriptor Data Elements (Authors).
