This report presents national estimates from the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health of the prevalence and treatment of serious mental illness (SMI) and of co-occurring SMI and substance use disorders among adults aged 18 or older. The prevalence of treatment for substance use and mental health problems among persons with co-occurring SMI and substance use disorders also is examined by socioeconomic and demographic characteristics.
