The latest Community Snapshot features Wichita and Sedgwick County, KS.
In recent years, the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County, KS have worked
collaboratively to create a comprehensive solution to homelessness in the area.
Between 2005 and 2009, chronic homelessness declined by more than 60 percent in
the Wichita/Sedgwick County area. This decline is largely attributable to the
increase in the number of permanent supportive housing units for chronically
homeless individuals. In recent years, the city and county have brought their
permanent supportive housing to scale, increasing it by 33 percent. The
strategies implemented by the city and county demonstrate the shift away from
managing homelessness toward a system designed to end it. (Author)
